NEO: the first humanoid robot butler now a reality for $20,000

1X Tech has taken a huge step into the domestic future with NEO, its new humanoid robot designed to act as a personal assistant in the home. This model, powered by artificial intelligence, can not only perform everyday tasks, but also learns and improves with experience.

An “affordable” robot for the home

While other companies offer similar robots for prices in excess of $30,000 or even $100,000, the NEO costs $20,000 (about 17,000 euros). Its goal is clear: to bring advanced robotics closer to the common consumer.

Safe, quiet and functional design

The 1X NEO has a soft, fabric-covered body, designed to blend visually into a domestic environment and minimize risks when interacting with people or objects.
It weighs about 30 kilograms, generates just 22 decibels of noise and has an internal skeleton made of 3D polymeric structures.

Its hands offer 22 degrees of freedom, allowing it to lift up to 70 kilograms with its arms or carry almost 25 kilograms with stability. In terms of connectivity, it includes 5G, WiFi and Bluetooth to easily integrate with other devices in the home.

Integrated communication and entertainment

The robot incorporates speakers in its chest and pelvis, allowing it to speak, play sounds or music and function as a small mobile entertainment center. Thanks to its integrated language model (LLM), it can carry on natural conversations and recognize when someone addresses it.

His computer vision gives him awareness of his surroundings, which enhances interaction and allows him to learn by observing what is happening around him. It also has contextual memory, so it can remember past conversations and adapt its responses.

Artificial intelligence that learns and adapts

NEO doesn’t just follow commands: it learns from its environment and daily tasks. In its early days it can handle simple actions – such as turning off lights or opening the door – but over time it expands its abilities through software updates and continuous learning.

The company explains that its Tendon Drive system, based on tendon drives, offers smoother and more natural movements than other humanoid robots.

Remote control and privacy

During the initial phase, part of the tasks of the first NEO models will be performed by human teleoperators who will help the robot to perfect its behavior. Users will be able to manage this access from an app, defining schedules, restricted areas and privacy filters that blur images of people or objects.

Price and availability

The 1X NEO can now be reserved on 1X Tech’s official website for a $200 deposit, with two modes available:

  • One-time payment: $20,000.
  • Monthly subscription: $499.

With NEO, Norwegian company 1X Tech seeks to make the dream of having an intelligent and safe robotic butler much closer and more real.
