Katy Perry has made history by becoming the first singer to participate in a suborbital space flight. The artist was part of Blue Origin’s NS-31 mission, led by Lauren Sanchez, Jeff Bezos’ partner, in an all-female expedition, something not seen since 1963.
The team included prominent figures such as journalist Gayle King, engineer Aisha Bowe, activist Amanda Nguyen and producer Kerianne Flynn. During the 11-minute flight, the crew members crossed the Kármán line at 100 kilometers altitude and experienced weightlessness.
Perry, excited by this experience, dedicated her trip to her daughter Daisy, highlighting her desire to inspire more girls to take an interest in science careers. For the occasion, she received intensive training and wore a spacesuit designed by Monse and underwear created by SKIMS.
Despite some criticism that it was an elitist trip, the mission was celebrated as a milestone in female empowerment in the space arena. The presence of celebrities such as Oprah Winfrey and members of the Kardashian family at the launch demonstrated the media and social impact of the event.
This flight not only marks a new chapter in space tourism, but represents an important step towards greater female representation in the exploration of the universe.
